Second Niger Bridge reaches 43% completion

The Federal government has said work at the second Niger Bridge has reached 43 percent completion.
Speaking to our correspondent over the weekend in Onitsha, the Controller Works, in charge of Anambra and Delta States, Engineer Adeyemo Ajani also said the completion date of February, 2020 given to Nigerians by the contracting firm handling the project still stands.
Engineer Ajani said the contracting firm, Julius Berger PLC, was still working on the site except at the heat of the coronavirus pandemic, when they had a little break.
According to him, the second Niger Bridge would open up areas like Ogbaru, Obosi, Onitsha and their environs the more when completed.
The Controller Works also said the alarm of the first Niger Bridge shaking and collapsing was false and unfounded.
In another development, two persons lost their lives on Monday in a fatal accident along Mike Ojegbo road in Obosi, Anambra State.
The accident which occurred around 9am near the Police station in the area, involved five vehicles.
One of the vehicles, an articulated truck went up in flames immediately after the crash.
The Sector Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Mr. Pascal Anigbo, confirmed the incident, saying the crash occurred near the Police station in the area.
