A Bill for the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre in Onitsha is due for public hearing at the National Assembly Complex Abuja.
Report reaching our correspondent says the bill which is sponsored by the Senator representing Anambra North Senatorial Zone, Princess Stella Oduah is among many others expected to scale the hurdle in no distant time.In a statement, the senator said the need for a federal Medical Centre in the ancient city of Onitsha is long overdue.
According to her, the Onitsha General Hospital could have been overwhelmed by the ever rising population across the Metropolitan city.
According to the Senator, the new federal Medical Centre when erected would have modern health facilities that would save the residents the pains of travelling outside Onitsha for medical treatment.
”With this development, our people would now benefit from the standard, relatively budget friendly treatment and healthcare that such institutions offer, not to mention the job opportunities that would spring up with the coming of such a gigantic institution,” She said.
Senator Oduah pointed out that out of her numerous achievements, her fully installed and functional solar mini grid systems at the general hospital Onitsha, St. Charles Borromeo Specialist Hospital Onitsha and the Holy Rosary Specialist Hospital and Maternity, Waterside Onitsha, stand as proof of her commitment towards a more effective health care system for the people of Anambra North Senatorial Zone.
She further stated, ”anyone living within Anambra North will attest to our efforts in seeking to see that constituents are intermittently availed the services of free medical diagnosis and treatment outreach programme, annually where constituents get to have free proper medical checkup, tests, treatment, eye are, free glasses and drugs made available to them.
The Senator lamented the perennial water shortage in the state, pointing out that she’s built over 55 water boreholes across the senatorial district, providing clean and potable water for her constituents and will continue to do so in that regard.
