The All Progressives Congress (APC) Nasarawa State Chapter has appealed to the citizens and residents to shun the proposed August 1st nationwide protest in order not to incur more hardship.

Chairman of the party in Nasarawa State Dr Aliyu Bello, made the appeal at a press briefing on Tuesday in Lafia.

Dr Bello said APC as a party has identified with Nigerians on the hardship being experienced as a result of the global economic downturn and development policies inherited by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The APC Chairman said President Tinubu had taken pragmatic measures to improve the economy of the country and the welfare of the people.

He said that the President had invested heavily in agriculture by funding the cultivation of a minimum of 10 hectares of farmland in all the states to address food shortage thereby combating hunger in Nigeria.

Dr Bello said further that President Tinubu had created the Ministry of Livestock Development to address perennial farmers/herders conflict as well as boost livestock production and food security in the country.

“Mr President recently signed into law the bill on the implementation of the new national minimum wage of N70,000 with a view to improving the welfare and the wellbeing of Nigerian workers.

“Mr President in all genuineness of purpose and concern for democracy and grassroots development has dared the state governors by the recent Supreme Court judgment, which ceded financial autonomy to the local Government councils.

“And granting them full recognition as federating units of the Nigeria political structure,” he said.

Dr Bello said the planned
protest is a politically motivated action by some enemies of the state who do not mean well for the ordinary citizens except for their selfish political gains.

He said Nasarawa State under the leadership of Governor Abdullahi Sule has been consistent in the pursuit of the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu in all sectors of the economy.

He pointed out critical sectors including agriculture, health, education, youth empowerment, job creation, regular payment of retirees’ up-to-date payment of civil servants, palliative distribution, and infrastructural development among others.

“Given the foregoing, the Nasarawa State APC is hereby calling on the good people of the state especially our dear youths to give peace a chance, stay away from the protest, and avoid acts capable of taking us back.

“As a party, we have mobilized our members for a solidarity rally to hold simultaneously at the polling units, Wards, Local Government Areas, and at the state level from 1st August 2024 to 14th August 2024 in support of the Administrations of President Tinubu and Governor Sule.

He called on the security agencies to provide adequate security around the state to enable the citizens to go about their normal businesses without any hindrance.
