Defeat to Croatia has left Argentina teetering on elimination from the World Cup, yet as the crisis has progressed the president of the Argentine FA, Claudio Tapia, has encouraged the domestic media to be patriotic and avoid publishing what he defines as lies.
This comes in the wake of stories emerging that Jorge Sampaoli had totally lost control of the dressing room and the players have essentially taken his power from him ahead of the final group match against Nigeria.
“You have to show that you are really Argentine, tell the truth and don’t publish lies,” he explained.
“Because each member of the press is dying to have the scoop, they hurt the national team.
“There isn’t any benefit to anyone if you damage the image of the national team.”
Sunday’s training session passed without incident, and Sampaoli was even pictured congratulating Lionel Messi on his 31st birthday.

“You have seen the team training, a lot of what you’ve said is clearly a lie,” he intimated. “The media is the fourth power.
“However, there are different ways of exercising power, you can communicate the truth or portray distortions and lies.”(Marca)
