A coalition of concerned southern Kaduna people and support groups has lauded Senator Sunday Marshall Katung for his instrumental role in securing the newly approved Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia.
The groups, at a press conference, described his leadership as visionary and transformative, highlighting his various interventions across the region.
The convener, Hon. Comrade Edward John Auta, while reading the statement, expressed gratitude for Sen. Katung’s legislative efforts, stating that his commitment to the progress of Southern Kaduna is unmatched. According to him, securing the university is a historic achievement that will provide education and job opportunities, boosting the local economy.
Sen. Katung has also been at the forefront of key legislative interventions, including a motion calling for federal intervention in the diphtheria outbreak in Southern Kaduna and an advocacy push for ginger farmers, which led to a ₦1.6 billion aid package following the 2024 ginger blight disease.
The senator’s contributions extend beyond legislation. He recently commissioned a rehabilitated rural hospital in Fadan Ninzo, a modern science laboratory at Government Secondary School, Fadan Kamantan, and a digital economy centre in Kafanchan.
His empowerment initiatives have supported farmers and artisans in various trades, including agriculture and shoemaking.
In the area of infrastructure, he has facilitated the installation of 40 boreholes, including nine solar-powered ones, across educational institutions and several communities.
He has also overseen the procurement and distribution of 10,000 bags of fertilizer in the last two farming seasons, the provision of rice to indigent families, free medical supplies to healthcare centres, scholarships for over 500 students, and a ₦100 million grant scheme for vulnerable individuals.
The co-conveners, including Hadwyah Samuel, Surv. Samson Maikano, Winifred Isuwa, and Ernest Thyek Maidawa, reaffirmed their confidence in Sen. Katung’s leadership, stating that Southern Kaduna has never had it this good under any of his predecessors.
“We celebrate this milestone and trust in Sen. Katung’s ability to continue driving positive change. We hope more leaders like him will emerge to transform our communities,” the statement concluded.
Sen. Katung, representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, has been vocal on critical issues affecting his constituency despite being a first-term senator without a principal office or committee chairmanship.
His efforts, the groups believe, reflect a genuine dedication to the well-being of his people.
