Governor of Taraba State Dr. Agbu Kefas has lifted the curfew imposed on Karim Lamido Local Government and its surroundings with immediate effect.

The Governor lifted the curfew while recieving the report of the Peace and Reconciliation Committee on the Karimjo/Wurkum crisis headed by the State PDP Acting Chairman, Alhaji Inuwa Bakari.

The Governor had on the 7 of July 2023 relaxed the 24-hour curfew initially imposed by 12 hours after reviewing the security situation with the stakeholders of the affected communities.

Dr. Kefas expressed satisfaction with the return of peace to the area and the readiness of people to now live in harmony with one another.

The Governor also directed that the Peace Committee metamorphosed into a resettlement committee to oversee the distribution of relief materials to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) as the result of the conflict.

Presenting the report, Chairman of the Peace and Reconciliation Committee Alhaji Inuwa Bakari said concerted peace building efforts by the committee had restored normalcy in the affected areas and expressed the need for the lifting of the curfew.

Dr. Kefas imposed a 24-hour curfew on July 2, 2023 in the area as a result of communal feud between the Karimjo and Wurkum communities over chieftaincy matters.
