Taraba local government employees urge Governor Kefas to intervene in payment of 6 months salary arrears

The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Taraba state has appealed to Governor Agbu Kefas on the need to intervene on the six months’ salary arrears of council workers incurred by immediate past administration.

The outgoing acting state President of the union, Comrade Yakubu Tanko Burba who made the plea during the 8th quadrennial state delegates conference in a valedictory address in Jalingo noted that despite huge success recorded by Kefas administration its imperative to crave his indulgence for implementation of the arrears.

Other demands expected for the Governor to look into are financial implementation of promotion of workers, increase running cost of the councils, full funding of local government service commission (LGSC) to achieve training and retraining of council’s staffs and appointment of NULGE in the promotion and disciplinary committee of the local government service commission among several other demands.

Comrade Burba acknowledged Governor Kefas resolve to appoint one of them Comrade Moseh Luka into his cabinet as commissioner in the ministry of works and infrastructure for his giant strides.

He also applauded support and guidance of Dr. Babangida Hassan as Permanent Secretary, Bureau for local government, traditions and chieftaincy affairs and the acting head of service Mrs. Patricia Danna and permanent secretary local government service commission Alh. Jibrin Kasim respectively for attending to matters that enhance service delivery at the grassroots level.

The outgoing unionist who enumerated some modest achievements recorded by his leadership during period under review to include review of welfare scheme/ consolidate operation, setup a framework for the completion of two legacy projects (the hotel project and event Centre) to be precise for purpose of diversify income and reduce over dependence on monthly check off due’s and the maintained closed collaboration with the Government for the financial implementation of promotion and settlement of outstanding salary arrears.     

Comrade Burba paid tribute to the former late leader Comrade Naphtali Kefas and other union members, who passed away for their contributions towards the development of the union.

He urged the intending aspiring members into various positions to be peaceful and accept the outcome of the election in the interest of the union.  ‘I want to urge all those aspiring for various positions in the state administrative council to be peaceful and accept the outcome of the election. I personally made sacrifice for the peace of the union by stepping down from contesting the position of state president. As far as I am concerned, we are all on the same page to enhance the welfare of local government workers and to contribute towards a better local government administration’.
