Team Shammasu emerges champions of Basira off-season tournament

Lafia East Primary School in Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State was full to capacity with excited fans as they watched the Basira off-season final competition.

The keenly contested football match between Team Shammasu Mohammed and Team Mohammed Sabo culminated in a penalty shootout with Team Shammasu winning the competition 4–3 goals.

The match, which stated at about 5:14 pm, saw both teams competing with each other to score in the opening round, but the first 45 minutes ended goalless to the admiration of their fans who came out in their numbers to cheer them up.

The second half saw Team Sabo dominating the game with considerable vigor to win, but their opponent did not enable them to achieve their target as they defended their coast, resulting in 90 minutes of goalless play.

The moment that pleased both teams’ fans arrived when players took their turn in the penalty shootout, with team Shammasu emerging as the tournament champions after scoring four goals, three of which were scored by team Sabo.

During the presentation of awards and trophies to the winners, the tournament organiser, Mr. Salisu Usman-Galadima, appreciated the superlative displayed by the both teams during the final match.

Mr. Galadima who is also the Chairman, Nasarawa State Football Association (FA), affirmed that the mission of puting the tournament was to fish out talented players and also to prepare players towards forthcoming leagues such as the Premier League, Nigeria Nationwide League (NNL), and Nationwide League One (NLO), adding that the teams performed well during the tournament.

His words, “I am extremely happy with the organisation of this tournament and the moral conduct of the participating teams. I want to use this medium to promise you that this event will be sustained.”

Our correspondent reports that, Mr. Salisu Usman-Galadima, presented the sum of N200,000 to the winner of the competition whileTeam Sabo went home with the sum of N150,000 as 1st runner up .

Others who got accolades included Sabo Gambo Mohammed as best player of the event and Musa Adamu as Highest Goal Scorer, who scored four goals during the event.

Mustapha Galadima was named Best Goalkeeper, Emmanuel Bala named Young Player of the Tournament, among other awards.
