Nigeria’s democracy is on a dangerous path, with the judiciary enabling corrupt politicians and damaging its own credibility. It is disheartening to see certain judges compromise their integrity, allowing politicians to manipulate them as mere instruments. The laws are clear, yet we witness judges issuing rulings on matters outside their jurisdiction.
Politicians have already eroded the integrity of our institutions, from primary and secondary schools to universities, and now they threaten the police and judiciary. This interference by so-called democrats undermines our system, pushing it to the brink. Should people feel compelled to take matters into their own hands, it will be a grave situation for the nation.
President Tinubu risks a legacy worse than military rule if his government continues to interfere with independent arms of government, rendering them ineffective. The National Assembly, the police, and now even the judiciary have all fallen in line as political tools. I urge President Tinubu not to jeopardize our democracy. Conflicting judicial orders, such as those seen in Kano and Rivers, alongside instances where states have had to conduct elections without police due to their boycott, highlight the potential for citizens to resort to self-help. We must not destroy the democracy we fought so hard to achieve.
