Theft, vandalism: Shell losses 9,000 barrels daily
Activities of crude oil theft and pipelines vandals have cost Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) about 9,000 barrels of oil daily last year.
This was made known Friday by the General Manager, External Relations of SPDC, Mr Igo Weli, at presentation of its 2017 activities in Yenagoa.
According to him, the amount was more than the 6,000 barrels per day recorded in 2016.
He said theft has increased in 2017, but pointed out that the firm was not deterred and will always make it a matter of urgency to clean up and repudiates areas affected by spills originating from its facilities.
Weli also said Shell spent about N21.71 billion on community development in Bayelsa State between 2016 and 2017, through its joint venture.
