Tough: Too close to call in Osun governorship election

The Osun State governorship election is too close to call among the leading contenders in the polls conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner in most polling units.
Though there were some cases of vote-buying despite the “blockage” by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in checking such cases.
In fact, the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ademola Adeleke and that of All Progressives Congress (APC) Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola are having a tight contest in most of the polling units declared.
The candidates of Action Democratic Party, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, Social Democratic Party, Senator Iyiola Omisore and African Democratic Congress, Alhaji Fatai Akinbade are pulling weight too.
In some of the polling units where results have been declared, the two leading parties were APC and PDP.

Police nab vote-buying gang
Despite measures by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a free and fair governorship election in Osun State vote buying were recorded at the polls.
The Police arrested three persons with at least N720, 000 on them in a bid to influence voters.
The Force Spokesman, acting DCP Jimoh Moshood in statement in Abuja emailed to Apex News Saturday said those arrested are Muriat Olalekan, 61, Hamzat Muniru, 65 and Adeagbo Wasiu.
He said the arrest followed the deployment of operatives of IGP Monitoring Unit and the Intelligence Response Team of the Force.
Also, another vote buyer identified as Sunday was arrested and later released by police officers in Osun State.
He was caught at Polling Unit 03, Ward 06 of Ifedayo Local Government at about 10:46am. Sunday was assisted by an older man who was closer to the voting cubicle to confirm the electorates’ vote while he (Sunday) distributed the money.
Shortly after, the attention of the police officers around was drawn to the situation and he and his accomplice were arrested and taken away from the vicinity in a police vehicle. They both returned to the polling unit.
There were also complaints of vote buying some candidates participating in the elections.
The candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Alhaji Fatai Akinbade, said voting-buying has negatively affected the election.
Akinbade, who spoke to newsmen in Ogbagba after the accreditation and voting, said “vote-buying had taken the shine off the election.”
The candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Iyiola Omisore, who cast his vote at the Polling Unit 3 Ward 1, Ife East, said those selling their votes had destroyed their destinies.
“I know INEC and other officials are trying to prevent it but it is still happening. People are stylishly doing it,” he said.
