In a commendable display of unity and commitment to tourism and youth development, the Tourism Volunteers Network (TVN) and the National Youth Assembly of Nigeria (NYAN) Cross River State Chapter have congratulated Ambassador Phil Roberts, the Executive Director of the Tourism Volunteers Network on his appointment as an Ambassador for the National Parks of Nigeria.
This prestigious appointment comes in recognition of Ambassador Roberts’ successful efforts to promote tourism investment opportunities across Nigeria, including his recent project at Okomu National Park in Edo State, where he was personally received by Governor Godwin Obaseki.
On behalf of TVN and NYAN Cross River State Chapter, Ambassador Bassey Nton Nton, who serves as the State Coordinator for TVN and the Speaker of NYAN Cross River Chapter, sent a congratulatory message to Ambassador Roberts.
This message was delivered during an online high-level interaction focused on youth and tourism development in Cross River State.
Ambassador Bassey Nton Nton expressed gratitude to God for Ambassador Phil Roberts’ new role while praying for continued strength, wisdom, and success in his ambassadorial duties.
“The conservation of national parks and tourist sites across Nigeria is vital. Nature is life, and connecting with nature is essential to our well-being,” stated Ambassador Nton Nton.
He further outlined Ambassador Roberts’ key roles in his new position, which include: Conservation Advocacy: Raising awareness about the importance of environmental conservation.
Park Promotion: Showcasing the beauty of Nigeria’s national parks to local and global audiences.
Community Engagement: Promoting sustainable coexistence between local communities and wildlife.
Education and Outreach: Developing programs to inspire a love for nature and conservation.
Research and Monitoring: Partnering with scientists to improve park ecosystems.
Tourism Development: Encouraging responsible tourism that boosts local economies while protecting the environment.
Ambassador Bassey Nton Nton emphasized TVN’s crucial role in supporting the government’s efforts to develop the tourism sector, particularly in Cross River State, known as the “home of tourism.” TVN’s mission extends beyond the state, aiming to promote tourism across Nigeria and Africa, thereby contributing to global tourism growth.
“Tourism Volunteer Network (TVN) Cross River State Chapter, as a committed volunteer group and chapter, is supporting the government’s tourism development efforts within Cross River State and beyond. We are particularly focused on promoting ecotourism, a form of sustainable travel that emphasizes responsible practices, environmental conservation, and the well-being of local communities. This initiative aligns with our goal to engage the youth in meaningful ways that contribute to the state’s and nation’s economic and cultural heritage.” Ambassador Bassey Nton Nton outlined.
Shortly after his appointment, Ambassador Roberts embarked on a three-week tourism training program in China as part of the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative, which aims to strengthen Nigeria-China cooperation.
Ambassador Nton Nton noted that this initiative is a significant catalyst for Nigerian tourism, with Nigeria standing to benefit immensely from the project, particularly in the tourism sector.
Ambassador Nton Nton extended an open invitation to the public to join these transformative initiatives, highlighting the importance of volunteerism in tourism and youth development as key to achieving collective goals.
“Cross River State is the home of tourism, and with concerted efforts, the tourism sector can significantly boost the state’s revenue. We welcome everyone to be a part of this movement,” he encouraged.
Additionally, Ambassador Nton Nton clarified the role of the National Youth Assembly of Nigeria (NYAN), describing it as a legislative, dynamic, and youth-centred organization that has been a driving force for positive engagement, innovation, entrepreneurship, and good governance among Nigerian youth for nearly two decades.
“NYAN is dedicated to promoting youth participation in governance, advocating for equity, freedom, and justice, and supporting youth involvement in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” he explained.
