Yobe Queens beat Plateau Queens 2-1 to win 2019 Hockey Super League

Yobe Queens hockey club of Damaturu defeated Plateau Queens of Jos 2-1 on Friday in Abuja to win their last match at the women’s competition of the 2019 Hockey Super League.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the win gave Yobe Queens who had been leading the competition’s table an unassailable lead, with 13 points from five matches.
Mary Terhemba of Yobe Queens scored their two goals in the 8th and 27th minutes of the game played at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.
In the second quarter, Mary Danboyi scored for Plateau Queens in the 48th minute to reduce the deficit.
Speaking later, Lucy Michael, the coach of Yobe Queens, said she was happy they achieved their target of winning the competition which had six clubs participating.
“I’m so happy that we won our last match and I say `a big thanks’ to my players for the job well done.
“I’m happy we have registered the name of the club in the history of the federation and in the league,” she said.
Meanwhile, in other matches played in the women’s competition, Kada Queens beat IGP Queens 7-0 while Delta Queens beat Heartland of Imo 5-0.
NAN reports that a total of eight clubs are participating in the men’s competition, while six clubs make up the women’s competition.
The league which got underway on Sunday will end on Saturday.(NAN)
