Where We Fell, depicts a vivid picture of true love, that signals the moment when such love begins to have loopholes, as misunderstandings take the lead, while the relationship heads for a big crash. This book is all about two youngsters (the main characters: Martin and Anne) who are in love with each other. Their love life is backed with conflict of interests, coupled with their life’s ambitions being the centrepiece.

The two love birds (Martin and Anne), who moved in together, are struggling to keep the passion they have for each other aflame, while also trying to fit it into their choice of career, Art. Their choices on the themes to dwell on while showcasing their art, is something the lovers find conflicting.

Martin on one hand, is an artist who loves to document (through his artwork) every bit of the moment spent with Anne – his girlfriend, but contrary as this may seem to Anne, Martin always chose the wrong moments to capture.

A striking case scenario worthy of note in this instance, was when Anne’s father had an accident. Anne was summoned by her mother to rush to her father’s dying bed, but the shock of seeing her father’s almost lifeless body sprawled in bed, the pain that gripped her heart at such a sight, coupled with the tears streaming down her cheeks, made her unconsciously let go of the glass she was holding in her hand, as it shattered unto the ground. This according to her was a wrong moment Martin chose to capture in his art.

This scenario, with some few instances, made the whole world of these beautiful love birds shatter. Martin was to have his first art exhibition ever, and Anne was invited as his girlfriend with her pictures splashed all over the place. Well, things began to go wrong when among the beautiful artworks displayed was this particular picture of her she dreaded seeing. The picture reminded her of seeing her father on his sick bed. It was the same picture that carried all the hurts she had been nursing concerning her father’s death, and all the memories that come with it.

Left to Anne, Martin was playing with her emotions, and was being inconsiderate to have captured such a moment in his art. Meanwhile, Martin considered it a precious moment to be captured and relived over and over in remembrance of her father.

Personally, I wish that the book did not end the way it did. The author was able to create such a beautiful world where two lovers can hardly live without each other, as their love can be felt reverberating all through the remaining parts of the book, creating a great suspense. The author however, decided to abruptly bring such a beautiful love story to an end. Not only did she unexpectedly do so, she also could not sustain the love between these two until the end. She suddenly put an end to their love life meant to be cherished forever, as they were both forced to go their separate ways. Anne got a new boyfriend that fitted into her world of imagination, understanding her choice of theme, but the strong love she felt for Martin was nowhere to be found in this new guy.

Well, if wishes were horses to ride on, I would have wished that the book be converted into a series to enable these two come together and continue their love spree, showing us what true love really means.
