On this special occasion of your 69th Birthday Anniversary, today 29th October, we join your family, friends, associates and well-wishers across the world to celebrate a rare gift to humanity
Your Excellency Sir, to us and particularly to me, you have been more than a leader. You have been a very God-fearing leader, a father, a mentor and a source of inspiration whose life has been defined by humility, integrity, service and the fear of God.
At 69, your life story remains a shining testimony of what God can do with a man who is diligent, faithful and God-fearing. From Ihima District of Okehi LGA, to GSS Okene, to Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, London School of Economics and Political Science, Emily Woolf College of Accountancy London, University of Jos, Baze University Abuja, Nigerian Law School Abuja and National Teachers’ Institute Kaduna – your academic journey is legendary. Making Division One with Distinction at WASCE, First Class Distinction in B.Sc Accounting with all prime academic prizes, leading your PhD course work, making Distinction in Banking, taking second position in Stockbrokers final exams at first sitting – you are truly an Academic Star.
Your 12-year meritorious career in the Merchant Banking sector, where you rose from Financial Analyst to Deputy General Manager in Corporate and International Banking, trained by Chase Manhattan Bank New York, Citibank New York, and Australia-New Zealand Bank London, and your voluntary resignation to establish the Omegah Business Conglomerate in 1996, speaks of your vision and enterprise.
In Public Service, as the First National Director of Finance of the PDP (1998-2002) where you designed the Party’s Accounting System and supported its financial stability, and as Deputy Governor of Kogi State for almost nine years (2003-2012), you served with no blemish, no financial or moral scandal, but with absolute loyalty, wisdom and cordial relationship with your boss. Your service as PDP Board of Trustees Member, Member University of Calabar Governing Council, Delegate to the 2014 National Conference where you proposed alternation of Presidency for unity and stability, and recipient of numerous honours including Most Royal Deputy Governor in Nigeria, Kwame Nkrumah and Nelson Mandela Prizes, are all worthy of celebration.
Your Excellency is a perfect blend of professionalism: Financial Technocrat, Chartered Corporate Accountant, Chartered Public Finance Accountant, Chartered Banker, Chartered Stockbroker, Chartered Tax Consultant, Chartered Mediator & Conciliator, Certified Forensic Accountant and Forensic Auditor, Certified Fraud Investigator and Examiner, Certified Professional Teacher, Lawyer, Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
As you clock 69, we pray that the Almighty God who has kept you in good health, blessed you with a wonderful wife Her Excellency Mrs Grace Itopa Omolola Salawu, six children and six grandchildren, will continue to keep you, strengthen you, and grant you many more years in sound health, peace and abundant grace.
