The Federal University of Health Sciences (FUHSA), Azare, Bauchi State, is set for the convocation of its first set of Students, five years after it was established and commenced academic activities.

The disclosure was made by the Vice Chancellor of FUHSA, Professor Bala Mohammed Audu, during a press conference held on Friday, eve of the maiden Convocation ceremony to be held on Saturday, 17th October, 2026.

The VC said, “Today marks a historic moment in the life of our university. As we prepare to graduate our first set of students, we are delighted to share with you the activities marking this landmark occasion, the significance of the convocation, and our vision for the future of this institution.”

According to him, “The maiden convocation ceremony represents a defining milestone in the history of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare. It is a celebration of the determination, commitment and collective efforts of our university community to advance health sciences education, research and service to humanity.”

He stressed that, “More importantly, this occasion demonstrates our progress towards fulfilling the mandate for which FUHSA was established to contribute to the development of highly skilled health professionals who will strengthen Nigeria’s health system through quality education, research, innovation and community service.”

“In less than five years, FUHSA has reached this remarkable milestone of graduating its first set of students. Indeed, tomorrow, we will witness the culmination of years of hard work, dedication and commitment as our first 50 graduates of Human Nutrition and Dietetics receive their first degrees,” he added.

The VC further said,”Remarkably, these graduates have returned from their various National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) camps to participate in this historic ceremony. This is a testament to the significance of this occasion and the strong bond they share with their alma mater.”

According to him,”Tomorrow, Saturday, 17th October 2026, we will confer first degrees on these 50 graduates of the Department of Human Nutrition and Dietetics. These graduates represent the first fruits of our academic enterprise and a significant step in our journey towards becoming a leading institution for health sciences education in Nigeria.”

He said, “Although this is our maiden convocation, it represents much more than the graduation of a first set of students. It symbolises the fulfilment of a promise, the beginning of a tradition of academic excellence, and our determination to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s human capital development.”

According to him,” The high point of the week’s activities will be the maiden convocation ceremony tomorrow, Saturday, 17th October 2026. As earlier indicated, 50 graduates of Human Nutrition and Dietetics will be awarded their first degrees, 3 of whom are first class. We congratulate these graduands on reaching this important milestone and commend their parents, guardians, teachers and mentors for their contributions to this achievement.

He added that, “The ceremony will also feature the conferment of honorary Doctor of Science degrees (honoris causa) on two distinguished Nigerians. The first is His Royal Highness, the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Samaila Mohammed Mera, the Chancellor of our University . The second is Mallam Adamu Adamu, former Minister of Education.”

According to him,”These honorary awards recognise distinguished contributions and service worthy of acknowledgement by the university. We are honoured to celebrate these eminent personalities during this historic occasion.
