The Management of Tansian University, Umunya, Anambra State, has appointed Rev. Fr. Prof. Nnamdi Ambrose Nwankwo as the institution’s new Acting Vice Chancellor.

The appointment follows the sudden death of the university’s former Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nnamdi Dike Umeoduagu.

In a statement issued by the university’s Chief Press Secretary, the management clarified that Nwankwo’s appointment was not an emergency arrangement or an arbitrary decision, but the outcome of a selection process initiated earlier by the Governing Council to fill the substantive position of Vice-Chancellor.

According to the statement, the process involved a public advertisement, submission of applications and interviews for prospective candidates.

Following the successful completion of the selection process, the Governing Council recommended Nwankwo to the Board of Trustees for consideration and approval.

The Board of Trustees subsequently approved the recommendation at a joint meeting with the Governing Council held on October 5, 2026, and authorised his appointment as Acting Vice-Chancellor with immediate effect.

The university disclosed that the appointment would initially run for six months, after which it could be confirmed or reviewed further in line with the institution’s established governance procedures.

The management expressed confidence in Nwankwo’s ability to provide effective leadership, citing his wealth of academic experience, administrative expertise, teaching and learning experience, and familiarity with the university system.

It said the university expected the new Acting Vice-Chancellor to contribute significantly to strengthening corporate governance, improving academic programmes and advancing institutional development.

The management also expressed hope that his leadership would promote reconciliation within the university community, peaceful coexistence and a conducive academic environment, while supporting efforts to achieve higher academic standards and greater international recognition.

Reaffirming its commitment to institutional progress, the university management said it remained focused on ensuring stability, continuity, transparency and excellence in the administration of the institution.
