Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has submitted a 2026 supplementary budget of N148.26 billion seeking the approval of the State House of Assembly.

In a letter addressed to the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, the Governor said the supplementary budget is necessary to address strategic needs that were not captured in the state’s original 2026 Appropriation Law.

The Governor said the state initially approved a N653.63 billion budget for 2026, comprising N460.39 billion for capital expenditure and N193.24 billion for recurrent expenditure.

Governor Kefas further said, the state subsequently became eligible for N7billion monthly under the State’s Discounting Programme, providing a new financing window that was not captured in the original budget.

He pointed out that the additional resources would support emerging priorities, including security-related initiatives, infrastructure development, and the implementation of the Taraba State Security Advancement and Sustainability Project, SAS-P.

The Governor disclosed that the State Ministry of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning had proposed internal adjustments amounting to N176.33 billion.
Of this amount, N44.8 billion would come from the approved 2026 contingency fund to be reallocated to Ministries, Departments and Agencies that had exceeded their recurrent expenditure provisions.

The Governor said the remaining N131.53 billion would be handled through virement and budget revision.

Governor Kefas urged the lawmakers to approve the supplementary budget, saying it would enable the state to strengthen capital development and realign expenditure with emerging priorities and fiscal realities.

The supplimentary budget presented to the Taraba State House of Assembly has already passed second reading which is a clear indication of the quick passage of the budget by the Assembly.
