1 dies, five others severely injured at Lafia flyover construction site

At least one person has reportedly lost his life and fiver other staff of Triacta Nigeria Limited sustained various degrees of injuries while trying to refill gully drainages in the ongoing flyover and underpass project in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.
Confirming the unfortunate incident to our correspondent via telephone interview in Lafia, the Area Manager of Triacta Nigeria Limited, Engineer Farsan Daou, disclosed that the lost one of their staff and several others sustained various degrees of injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Federal University Teaching Hospital, Lafia, the state capital.
Our correspondent reports that the projects are not just essential infrastructures; they are pivotal in enhancing urban mobility and improving the overall quality of life.
And by effectively reducing traffic congestion, increasing safety for residents, and enhancing connectivity throughout the area, the project elevates the aesthetic appeal of the city as well.
Our correspondent also reports that in May this year, Governor Abdullahi Sule reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to advancing infrastructure by approving a 1.2-kilometer combination of the flyover and underpass in Lafia.
Area Manager of Triacta Nigeria Limited, Engineer Daou who further elaborated on the incident said, “One of our staff passed away and several others are currently receiving treatment at the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Lafia.
And those who sustained injuries in the unfortunate incident that happened at 12 noon are getting their treatment and I think all of them will be in good condition by the special grace of Almighty Allah.”
He continued, “I wasn’t around when the accident happened, I was in the airport, but I am back to Lafia, trying to help all the victims. Although one of the victims has been sent to Jos, the Plateau state capital for medical attention because the victim was badly injured.”
However, a staff of Triacta Nigeria Limited who did want his name to be mentioned in the print, told our correspondent a similar incident occured last year which led to several staff of the company sustained various degrees of injuries.
According to the staff, the victim who lost his life hails from Kaduna state, nothing that those other victims that were involved in the incident were trying to refill a drainages at mobile filling when the wall collasped on them.
One of the staff of the company who also pleaded for anonymity told our correspondent that the drainages is about 5 meter deep and when the wall fell on those victims, the excavator which was trying to rescue them by clearing the sound of their bodies, but unfortunately the excavator heat one of the staff and he could not survive it as he died instantly due to the deep cut on his head.
“They were digging the sound and some of them follow the excavator to help refilling the sound while some of them were stationed right inside the drainages but before they knew what was going on the wall fell on them,” the staff added.
Another eye witness who begged for anonymity informed our correspondent that the victims were trying to cover all the drainages and lay the irons before casting them when the incident happened, adding that last year similar incident occured that led to the death of one person who is from Nasarawa state and several others sustained various degrees of injuries.
Our correspondent also reports that the unfortunate incident that happened at about 12 noon Thursday, compelled the company to halt the ongoing flyover and underpass construction.
