Organisers of Okpambe Cultural and Fishing Festival in Cross River State have invited no fewer than 1000 local farmers for training on techniques of fishing.

This is to enable them effectively participate in the annual fishing competition holding in the Okum lake on 26 March 2022 and to survive on it after the festival.

Eriacy Confidence, the coordinator said, “As we approach the Grand Finale on the 26 March 2022, we look forward to collaborating with individuals and corporate organizations to engage the fishermen in an intensive training on fish farming and entrepreneurship with the aim of building capacities and creating opportunities for them.

“As Organizers, we will not only produce fisherman with the biggest catch during the but will equip and promote winner to compete favourably with his/her international counterparts.

Confidence said that in the past, only fishermen from the host community were allowed to fish in the Okum lake but that this year’s event has been modified with several programmes designed to accommodate and encourage participation across many countries.

He said the festival will create a platform for young farmers and entrepreneurs to discover new opportunities and create synergies.

The theme for the 2022 edition is” Tourism As A Tool For Unity, Peaceful Coexistence and Development”.
