A High Court Two Sitting in Nnewi judicial Division, and presided over by Justice Dennis Maduechesi has adjourned till the 12th of May 2021, hearing on a case for demolition of buildings brought before it by a 104 year old woman, Mrs. Margaret Onwuelo, and her daughters, against fifteen defendants.
The case will, apart from 12th May 2021, also be heard on the 20th of May 2021, the 25th of May 2021 and 17th of June 2021.
Our correspondent who was at the court reports that the court rose when the fifteen defendants were not present during the session.
All efforts to speak with the counsel to the plaintiffs, Barrister Ken Nwanna proved abortive as he declined to grant press interview while the counsel to the defendants, Barrister C. Udogalonye Orizu, equally declined interview.
The first plaintiff and the mother of the other plaintiffs, Mrs. Margret Onwuelo narrated how herself and her husband acquired the piece of land situated at Abel Okoye Road Egbu Otolo Nnewi in 1953 and later in 1971 when her husband died she and her children gradually commenced work on the parcel of land.
According to Mrs. Onwuelo, they have been enjoying an uninterrupted peaceful possession of the land for the past sixty-seven years without any challenge from any one until December 2019 when some group of people allegedly came to demolish their buildings and carted away their belongings.
It is expected that by the time the court was through with the matter, the truth would emerge from either the plaintiffs or the defendants.
