At least, 150 widows in parts of Cross River State have received cartons of food stuff and other edibles.
This activity happened over the weekend when the state Commissioner for Humanity and Social Welfare Services, Blessing Egbara and her aides visited local communities in seven local government areas, including Obudu, Yala, Biase, Ogoja, Ikom, Odukpani, Obubra for the Operation Feed the Widow’s exercise.
Addressing the widows in Yala, Egbara reassured that the overall welfare of the vulnerable citizens of Cross River State will always be given top priority by the state Governor, Professor Ben Ayade.
Egbara said that visiting the communities has opened her eyes to a lot of challenges people face in the society, disclosing that the feed the Widows exercise has again shown how vulnerable people are.
“His Excellency has mandated that we reach out to the Widows and that is why we are here today, He has seen and heard the cries of the widows and have decided to send these cartons of food items to you all, hoping that many more good things shall come down to you soon.”
Onne of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Lydia Etta expressed gratitude on behalf of other vulnerable persons and beneficiaries for the gesture, adding that it means a lot to them.
