2 auto crashes along Boromeo, Upper-Iweka Onitsha-Enugu Expressway leave 1 dead, others injured

Tragedy struck in the commercial city of Onitsha, Anambra State when a tipper carrying sand lost control and crushed a man while a serious road traffic accident that also occurred at Boromeo, Onitsha.

The incident happened on late evening hours of Friday 6th March 2020. Those at the scene said that the heavy truck was coming down from MCC when the driver lost control of the vehicle and crushes the victim to death.
The Upper-Iweka axis have seen some tragedies in recent times, the most notable of it being the tanker that fell and spilled it contents with explosion which destroyed more than N1billion worth of goods at the Ochanja International Market and people also lost their lives in the tragedy.
The steady occurrence of heavy trucks accident in this particular area can be attributed to the sloppy nature of the Onitsha – Enugu Express Way from MCC down to Bridge head (the River Niger Bridge).
Even though the Anambra State government have constructed multiple speed road bumps to limit the speed of vehicles in this area, some drivers especially truck drivers jumps this road bumps with reckless abandon.
“I think it is high time trucks should be banned from operating in the day time for they have killed more innocent souls than any other road accident in Nigeria,” Chief Joe Okafor stressed.
Meanwhile, a serious road traffic accident that occurred at Boromeo, Onitsha, Awka Express Road on Friday at about 1pm that involves a trailer with registration number URM572XA and a commercial bus FGG260ZV that involved 5 passengers, one injured and were taken to the near by hospital by sympathizers.
The crash was caused by over speeding of the trailer, who lost his balance and hit the yellow commercial bus conveying commuters to their destinations.
An eyewitness reported that the trailer was coming towards Boromeo Hospital with speed and lost his balance when a private car coming towards it tried to enter his lane after overtaking another vehicle lost balance to and causing the trailer driver to make a sharp turn and hit the commercial bus also referred to as Osite in Anambra State.
The State commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State, Corps Commander Andrew A. Kumapayi warns motorist against violation of speed limits. Remember to slow down while driving life doesn’t have duplicate.
