2 PDP ward leaders killed in Jos auto crash

Two ward leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Shendam Local Government Area of Plateau State were said to have died in a road crash Saturday while returning from last party’s presidential campaign rally in Jos, the state capital.
The18-seater bus in which they were travelling was said to have veer off into the bush, killing a ward chairman and women’s leader of the Torshi ward of the party in Shendam.
The driver and other party members were said to have sustained minor injuries.
Confirming the incident, he party’s publicity secretary, John Akans, said it was unfortunate it happened after a successful presidential campaign rally “which saw hundreds of thousands of supporters from across the state.”
Meanwhile, PDP Presidential Candidate Atiku Abubakar has condoled with families of the victims and had ordered immediate support to those hospitalised.
A statement by Atiku’s media adviser, Paul Ibe, named the victims as Mrs Christy Yelick Dungtou and Mr Donatus Morkwap.
He stated: “We have received with sadness report of the loss of Mrs Christy Yelick Dungtou and Mr Donatus Morkwap, members of one of our support groups in a road accident on their way to Shendam after the Jos rally of the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar on Saturday. Mrs Dungtou died at the scene of the accident while Morkwap passed away as he was being conveyed to General Hospital, Barkin-Ladi.
“The former vice president has directed his campaign organisation to spare no resource in ensuring that those still in hospital receive the best of medical care. He has also instructed that the Campaign takes care of the burial cost of the deceased.(Daily Trust)
