Anambra State Commissioner for Basic Education,  Professor Kate Azuka Omenugha, says Governor Willie Obiano’s investment in Education is yielding the desired positive results.
She was speaking in Abuja after the State garnered four awards including the overall best teacher in Public Secondary School in Nigeria at the Twenty Twenty one edition of the President’s Teachers and Schools Award.
The Commissioner, emphasised that Anambra State has always won awards at the programme since the year twenty seventeen saying that the present awards is a replica of what happened in twenty nineteen.
According to Professor Omenugha, Anambra State is grounded in all categories because Governor Obiano led administration has been committed to giving teachers and students the needed support to compete globally.
Commissioner Omenugha said the Ministry of Basic Education, has a clear vision and working in tandem with Governor Obiano’s mandate of ensuring that the learning needs of all are met through equitable distribution of resources, learning of life long skills and ensuring that Anambra State is one of the top three states with lowest illiteracy rate.
Professor Omenugha, said that government has identified with teachers, given them support, paid their salaries on time, given them different types of incentives and trained them in Nigeria and abroad adding that presently, her Ministry has plans to train students on robotics and artifical intelligence as part of what she called “exit strategy” that will among other things, put Anambra State on the map of excellency in education.
She urged teachers to be torch bearers of the light of the Nation and work harder as they have been given global competitiveness.
On her part, the winner of the overall best teacher in Public Secondary School,  Mrs. Bridget Nnabeze of Modebe Memorial Secondary School, Onitsha,  said passion for the job gave her the award and urged other teachers to work even when no-one is watching them.
According to Commissioner Omenugha, teachers have great roles to play in the lives of their students under their care and as such, must be role models at all times.
