2025 Hawan Bariki: We take pride in hosting ambassadors from different countries – Governor Radda, woos investors in agrobusiness, commerce, education, cultural heritage

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State has described the 2025 Hawan Bariki—a traditional homage to the State Governor—as a historic occasion, marking the first time the state has hosted ten international ambassadors and their families during the cultural celebration.

Addressing dignitaries at the event, Governor Radda stated, “We take great pride in hosting, for the first time, ten ambassadors from different countries along with their spouses and children. Your presence graces this occasion, and we deeply appreciate your support. We look forward to further collaborations and partnerships that will bring opportunities to Katsina State.”

The Governor emphasized that Katsina’s cultural festivals are more than mere celebrations, describing the Grand Durbar as “a spectacular event that showcases our rich equestrian and cultural traditions.”

“The iconic Sallah Durbar is not merely a festival; it is a testament to our deep-rooted culture, resilience, and unwavering commitment to peace and harmony. The magnificent display of horsemanship, the vibrancy of our traditional attire, and the melodies of our folk music all reflect the beauty of our identity and the pride we take in preserving our heritage,” he added.

Reflecting on the historical significance of the state’s cultural traditions, Governor Radda disclosed that “As far back as 1956, the historic Durbar was staged in Kaduna to honor Queen Elizabeth II, then the colonial head of Nigeria. At that time, Katsina and Daura Emirates distinguished themselves, contributing immensely to the rich history of Northern Nigeria. Our legacy is evident in many firsts—historical monuments, educational institutions, and leadership milestones—which have shaped our region’s identity.”

Katsina as an Investment Hub

The Katsina Governor seized the opportunity to invite international investors to the state. “I call upon our esteemed guests and investors to explore the numerous opportunities that Katsina State has to offer—from agriculture to commerce, from education to tourism. Our fertile land presents vast opportunities for agribusiness, while our markets serve as hubs of trade and cultural heritage. We invite you to partner with us in building a future of shared prosperity and sustainable growth.”

Reaffirming his administration’s priorities, Governor Radda said: “My administration remains dedicated to fostering an environment of security, economic prosperity, and infrastructural development to ensure that Katsina State remains a beacon of hope and opportunity for all. We are investing in education to empower our youth, strengthening our healthcare system to ensure the well-being of our people, and enhancing security to protect lives and property. These are the pillars upon which our ambition for a prosperous Katsina is built.”

The Governor further pinpointed ongoing reforms aimed at boosting tourism, preserving heritage, and expanding opportunities in the creative economy. “During your visit, we encourage you to explore freely, engage with our local communities, and experience the unique hospitality that defines our state,” he said.

The Katsina Governor extended his appreciation to the Emir of Katsina, stating, “I would like to express my profound appreciation to His Royal Highness, the Emir of Katsina, HRH Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir Usman; the Commissioner of Police, the Director of Justice, and the heads of security agencies for ensuring a peaceful and secure event.”

Emir of Katsina Commends Governor’s Leadership

On his part, the Katsina Emir praised Governor Radda’s commitment to transforming the state’s infrastructure, citing the construction of the Kofar Kaura Roundabout, Katsina-Dutsinma Road, and the Kaita-Dankama Highway.

“You have shown us that leadership isn’t just about blueprints—it’s in the relieved sighs of commuters, the laughter of children biking safely, and the quiet pride of elders watching their heritage walk hand in hand with the future,” the Emir remarked.

On the attendance of ten ambassadors from various countries, Emir Abdulmumini stated, “We are honored to have ambassadors from different European countries witnessing our rich traditions in Katsina State. Their presence is a testament to the peaceful and respectful way we observe our customs.”

The Emir also expressed gratitude to Governor Radda for his dedication to preserving and honoring Katsina’s sacred traditions.

The 2025 Hawan Bariki celebration was attended by Deputy Governor Malam Faruk Lawal Jobe, Speaker of the State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura, the Chief Judge and Grand Kadi of Katsina State, foreign ambassadors from ten countries, and their esteemed spouses.
