2025 inter-security agencies unity cup football tournament kicks off in Nasarawa

In a proactive move to promote a cordial relationship and unity among military and paramilitary, Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has approved the 4th edition of inter-security agencies unity cup football tournament scheduled to kick-off next week in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital.

Briefing sports journalists at the Nasarawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Abdullahi Sule on Sports Development, Hamza Ibrahim-Moyi, flanked by the SSA to the Governor on Youth and Students’ Affairs, Shuaibu Sani, and Head of Public Relations, Nasarawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Eche Amos, said Governor Sule has approved the staging of 2025 4th edition of the tournament.

The organizers of the annual Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state Inter-Security Agencies’ Unity Cup Football Tournament while announcing the event explained that arrangements have been put in place to ensure for effective and smooth kick-off of the tournament in the state.

His words, “I am glad to inform you that His Excellency, Governor Abdullahi Sule has graciously approved the commencement of the 4th edition of the Inter-Security Agencies’ Unity Cup Football Tournament.

“This year’s edition will be different from the previous ones as there will be twelve military and paramilitary agencies competing for supremacy on the field of play as against the ten agencies we had in the previous editions under the Chairmanship of the National Security Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nuhu Ribadu.

“The Governor A. A. Sule Inter-Security Agencies’ Unity Cup Football Tournament has become a platform for security agencies operating in Nasarawa State to build camaraderie, showcase their skills, and improve productivity.

“This shows the Governor’s consistency in supporting this event, knowing the importance of security personnel in promoting peace, security and protection of lives and properties of the citizens.

“The event also promises to showcase exceptional talent, teamwork and the spirit of sportsmanship.

“As you all know, this tournament seeks to foster inter-agency cooperation and create a symbiotic relationship between security agencies and the civilian population,” Moyi added.

He, however, disclosed that there would be mouthwatering rewards to participants, exceptional players, and coaches, including awards like cash prizes, medals and recognition for outstanding performances for the Best Player, Highest Goalscorer, Best Goalkeeper and Best Coach of the tournament, as well as Fair play award.

The participating Security Agencies include The Nigerian Army (NA), The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), The Nigerian Police Force (NPF), The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), The Federal Fire Service (FFS), The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS), The Nigerian Immigration Service(NIS).

Others are The Department of State Services (DSS), The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), and The Nasarawa State Youth Empowerment Agency (NAYEA).

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), defeated resilient Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), by 2-0 to lift the last edition’s trophy at the Lafia City Stadium in 2024.
