40,000 Adamawa households benefit from farm inputs

Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has commenced the distribution of farm inputs to no fewer than 40,000 households in the state.
The beneficiaries are mainly women and youths who are expected to rejuvenate the agricultural sector at a time when farming communities are facing challenges.
Fintiri noted that the agricultural livelihood support provided by the Multi sectoral Crisis Recovery Project (MCRP) is pivotal to economic growth and the welfare of the people.
Under the purview of the MCRP, the Governor said his government has revitalized dormant fish hatchery, irrigation scheme, four demonstration farms and upgrade of essential facilities at College of Agriculture, Ganye.
Governor Fintiti who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta said the livestock productivity enhancement program was designed to improve livestock health and productive through targeted interventions in the area of veterinary service, disease control measures and training of livestock farmers.
Dr Maurice Vunobolki, State Project Coordinator, MCRP said the support is aimed at boosting agricultural production and value chain of 40,000 households through 1000 cooperative societies.
The Project Coordinator said the distribution covers complete mini mechanized farm tools, certified maize, rice, soya bean seeds.
Serena Cavicchi, Co Tax Team Leader, Head North-East Operation, World Bank, said the bank is looking into making the intervention more sustainable in the state
He said the support would make cooperative societies make future better in addressing huge food and nutrition crisis.
Mr Justine Clement who spoke for the beneficiaries, promised judicious use of the farm inputs collected.
