6 men remanded in Awka for Iilegal revenue collection, disruption of activities of revenue workers

Six men were over the weekend remanded in custody of the Nigerian Correctional Center, for illegal revenue collection and disrupting of activities of Anambra State Internal Revenue Service by an Awka Magistrate Court 3 presided over by Mrs. Nonyelum Anyaegbunam.
The Six men, charged to Court by the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service includes, Uzochukwu Boniface, Peter Augustine and James Obaji. Others were, Israel Ofozie, Chukwujekwu Ezike and Anthony Uzochukwu.
Messers Uzochukwu Boniface, Peter Augustine and James Obaji were charged for disrupting the activities of the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service while Israel Ofozie, Chukwujekwu Ezike and Anthony Uzochukwu were charged for illegal revenue collection.
Speaking on the matter, the Chairman, Anambra State Internal Revenue Service, Dr. David Nzekwu frowned at the attitude of some individuals who are in the habit of defrauding unsuspecting members of the public in the name of revenue collection.
He called on Ndi Anambra and other residents of the State to always pay their revenues to the designated banks using their ANSSID number.
Dr. Nzekwu further noted that the Board will not tolerate harassment of its official in any guise, by any individual or group, adding that the Board will decisively deal with such people according to the provisions of law.
The matter was adjourned till the thirteenth of March, 2020 for further hearing.
