6th combined convocation: Dangote, Almakura, Malami, others get honorary doctorates as Vice President Osinbajo praises Nasarawa State University, Keffi for high academic excellence

The 6th combined convocation of the Nasarawa State University, Keffi was round off Thursday with the conferment of honorary doctorate degrees on six prominent Nigerians with the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo as Special Guest of Honour.
The convocation was for graduates for 2016/2017, 2017/2018, 2018/2019, 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 sessions.
Those conferred with the honorary doctorate were former Governor of Nasarawa State, Senator Tanko Almakura. (Honorary Doctorate of Letters), Alhaji Aliko Dangote, (Honorary Doctorate of Business Administration), Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, (Honorary Doctorate of Law) and Group Managing Director, NNPC, Mallam Mele Kyari (Honorary Doctorate of Science).
Others Chief Peter Okocha, (Honorary Degree of Business Administration) and Alhaji Ali Abdulrazak Balarabe, (Honorary Doctorate of Business Administration).
Thursday’s convocation was for Postgraduate students were 9522 received various degrees from Postgraduate diplomas to PhDs. Undergraduate students had their convocation on Wednesday.


The Vice President scored the university high for sustaining excellence and academically impacted well on the people.
He said Nasarawa State University has come a long was since it establishment twenty years ago as a result of the purposeful and bold vision of the first civilian governor of the state, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, who is now APC National chairman.
Osinbajo pointed out that the quality of the alumni speaks of the commitment to that vision by the succeeding administrations as well as the dedication of management and the staff of the university over the years.
According to him, graduates of the university have excelled in every field of human endeavour and they have continued to do the university proud.
He said they include the immediate past Vice Chancellor, Professor Mainoma who is currently President, Association of National Accountants of Nigeria and Hajiya Ramatu Tijani Aliyu, the Minister of State, FCT.

Osinbajo urged the graduands to soar high as many Nigeria youths are shaping the world with music, dance, comedy, movies, technology, novel, and Fintech.

In his address, Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, said the occasion marked another milestone achievement in the history of the university and congratulated the graduands.
He thanked the initiator of the university, Senator Abdullahi Adamu noting that the institution kick-started from a very humble background and has today grown into a university of reputable teaching and learning like any other universities in the country.
The governor also thanked other successive administrations in the state especially the late former governor, Aliyu Akwe Doma and Senator Almakura for building upon the vision laid years ago Senator Adamu.
Earlier, the Chancellor of the university and Emir of Keffi, Dr Shehu Chindo Yamusa III stated that the success of the university can not be unconnected to prudent management of the lean resources available to it and the contribution of TETFUND which has demonstrated great concern to the development of tertiary institutions across the country which Nasarawa university has benefited.
Responding on behalf of honorary doctorate awardees, the Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami expressed gratitude for the gesture noting that they would contribute to the development education across the country.
He personally instituted an award for the best graduating law student in the university, Uthman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto and universities yet to be decided across the other geopolitical zones in the country.
An Endowment fund of N4billion to develop other critical infrastructure, was also launched as part of the graduation ceremony.
