7th Convocation: Nasarawa State Varsity honors Buhari COS, Polish world renowned scholar, graduates 7661 students

Nasarawa State University, Keffi, (NSUK) on Saturday conferred doctorate degree (Honoris Causa) to the Chief of Staff to President Muhamadu Buhari, Professor Ibrahim Agboola Gambari and a prominent world renowned Polish scholar Professor Brunon Holyst, as well as graduates 7661 students from undergraduate and postgraduate schools, to mark its 7th Convocation ceremony.
The 7th Convocation held at the Convocation Arena of the institution is said to have become the annual event of the university to confer certificate to it graduands. This convocation is for 2020/2021 academic session.

In his welcome speech, the Chancellor of the University, Alh. Dr. Shehu Chindo Yamusa lll, the Emir of Keffi explained that the conferment of the doctorate degrees on the deserving eminent personalities, is due to their excellence and contributions in various spheres of human endeavours. He urged the graduands to be worthy alumni and ambassadors of the university.

He equally commended the effort of the Visitor of the university, His Excellency, Engr Abdullahi Sule, Executive Governor of Nasarawa State for the sustained commitment and growth of the university,
In his address the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Suleiman Bala Mohammed gave insight on the academic development of NSUK. He said which was establishment 21 years ago, now has staff strength of 1527 and students’ population of 40728, and currently runs “67 undergraduate programmes spread over 54 Departments, 8 Faculties with a School of Postgraduate Studies that run several programmes”.
He said the university under his watch has excelled in the areas of research, innovation and development, security, as well as linkages and international cooperation.
In terms of infrastructural development, Professor Mohammed said the university has witnessed tremendous development through the intervention of Presidential Needs Assessment, TETFund, State Government, corporate entities and public spirited individuals. Such achievements includes; building and furnishing of a befitting Senate Building, construction and furnishing of central engineering workshops in Gudi Campus, construction of classrooms and lecture theatres as well as construction of College of Medicine building complex.
Others include, construction of Laboratory Complex in Keffi Campus, provision of Desktops and ICT furniture, supply and installation of engineering and medical equipment, fencing of Lafia and Gudi Campus, receipt of grant of N250 million, receipt of N70 million for the construction of Multipurpose Hall, among other achievements.
Of all these the VC said he remained grateful to Governor Sule for his reliable will and interest for the development of education in Nasarawa State by exceeding UNESCO’s recommendation threshold of 26%, through allocating 30% of Nasarawa annual budget to education sector.
In his speech, Visitor to the university, Governor A A Sule remarked that the 7th convocation ceremony of NSUK is another monumental watershed in the history of the vibrant university. Taking a look at the quality of award recipients the and other dignitaries the university is abled to attract, Gov. Sule said is an eloquent testimony of a continuous solidarity and support for a collective commitment to uplift the standard of education not only in Nasarawa State, but Nigeria at large.
The Governor applauded the efforts of the University Governing Council and the graduands to make the event a glory to behold.
Among the graduants were the governors elect of Sokoto and Taraba and the immediate past commissioner of education in Nasarawa State.
