The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, (JAMB) has been called upon to extend its February 13 deadline due to economic and Naira swap issues.
The immediate past chairman of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF ), Alhaji Musa Liman Kwande said in Lafia that, “As a father and grandfather, I am appealing to JAMB to have human feeling by extending the deadline for the closure of the sales of examination form for students who wants to write its matriculation examination due to many reasons.
According to him, “It is known that many people are experiencing economic hardship due to delay in accessing liquid or solid cash from their banks after they have laboured either as salary earners or self employed..
“The difficulties people are experiencing due to the swap from old to new Naira notes is known to all.
“And to those who are either orphans or youth learning skills and willing to write the examinations from their own savings amongst many factors.” He said.
Alhaji Musa Liman Kwande who holds the traditional title of Baraden (Generalismo) of Lafia in Nasarawa State, calls on President Muhammadu Buhari and National Assembly to intervene by alleviating the plight of the youths who are gifted and wants to pursue a degree program in Nigerian Universities to contribute their quota in nation building.
The elder statesman wants JAMB to also make its examination valid for a period of three years instead of one year because of the economic downturn affecting the people.
Alhaji Musa Liman Kwande said it is worrisome how some universities also organized post-JAMB examination, while many universities all over the world just prefer School Leaving certificate or West African Examination Council, ( WAEC ) and National Examination Council (NECO).
It could be recalled that he elder statesman had recently called on the federal government to scrap JAMB or for it to make its examination valid for at least three years.
