Taraba State Government has said it will take drastic action against any agency, individual, group or traditional institution that attempt to frustrate efforts of State Internal Revenue Service (SIRS) in the state.
The state gov. Architect Darius Ishaku who handed down the warning during launching and flag off of Single Inter-state Road Tax Stickers (SIRTS) and Single Haulage Fee (SHF) in Jalingo said the warning has become imperative in view of the reported cases of illegal revenue collectors in the state.
Gov. Darius represented by his deputy Engineer Haruna Manu who personally lauded untiring efforts of the Executive Chairman of the board Dr. Siman Ambintaa and staff for hard work over the years said his administration since assumption of office in 2015 has witnessed steady growth, innovations and transparency in the area of Internal Generated Revenue (IGR).
“I urge all unauthorized agencies, especially local government councils in the state to guide their revenue officers. In addition, I wish to call on community leaders to be cautious and respect the (SIRTS) and (SHF) initiative as government will not hesitate to take drastic action against any person, individual, group , agency or traditional institution that will attempt to frustrate this initiative,” he said.
in his address the executive chairman of the board Dr. Siman Ambintaa observed that the launching was significant as it provides an opportunity to interact with various stake holders in the transportation sector in the state.
According to him, the official launching of the single interstate road tax stickers (SIRTS) and single haulage fee (SHF) by Gov. Darius was a turning point aimed at making their operation easier to achieve the desired result.
According to him, “we wish to leverage on this medium to advice all local government council chairmen in the state, and the public to note and adhere strictly to this provision of law as the joint tax board (JTB), her members and partners have concluded arrangement to enforce compliance on our highways, markets, motor parks etc’. all unauthorized persons, individuals and government. agencies that do not have mandate to administer road taxes should stay off to allow the (SBIR) and her accredited agents to implement the (SIRTS) and (SHF) across Taraba.
Dr. Ambintaa further said the state internal revenue service (TIRS) has concluded arrangement with all security agents comprises the police, DSSS, NSCDC, FRSC, and courts to apprehend any defaulters for persecution in the court of law, pointing out that the aim of the meeting was to fashion out ways on how to reduce nationwide incidence of multiple taxation on transporters and come up with ways of boasting (IGR) of the state.’
Meanwhile representative of the Joint Tax Board, (JTB) consultant from Citiserve Nig. Ltd, Abdulahi Yusuf lauded Taraba state government for supportive.
He encourage Taraba state mainly transporters to comply with the new innovation, noting that the measure will checkmate activities of illegal revenue collectors and frustrate their bid from defrauding government.
