Elections: Radio Corporation of Nigeria tasks staff on professionalism, adherence to new electoral law

The Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), North Central Zone has called on its members of staff across the country to exhibit high sense of professionalism in the coverage of the ongoing political campaigns and conduct of general elections.

Mallam Haruna Idris, FRCN North Central Zonal Director made the call at the presentation of 2022 Best General Manager award in Lafia, Nasarawa state capital.

Idris said that FRCN must be in the forefront in exhibiting professionalism and abide by the new electoral law and the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) code of non partisanship and of being fair to all parties.

“We have underscored the need for FRCN to be in forefront to exhibit its usual professionalism by ensuring fair, objective, non partisan and follow the NBC code as it relate to political broadcasting.

“Radio Nigeria is always known in the past elections for being fair and objective in all our coverages, we have been adjudged by International organisations; European Union, Independent National Electoral Commission for doing wonderfully well,” he said.

Idris enjoined the organisation’s reporters to always remember FRCN’s motto of uplifting the people and uniting the nation ,as they engage in the coverage of rallies and elections in their reportage.

While presenting the award of the best station and the General Manager to Radio Nigeria, Precious Fm 102.5 Lafia’s Abimiku Ibrahim, Idris said that the award was to show appreciation and encouragement to further spur the station to do more.

“The idea of the award is not to promote competition among general managers and members of staff, but rather to motivate and express appreciation for all they have done very well.
”When you are appreciated it spurs you to do more,” he said.

Mr Abimiku Ibrahim, on behalf of the Radio Nigeria, Precious FM Lafia, expressed appreciation to the Zonal Director and the management team of FRCN North Central for the award, saying that the award would spur him to do more.

Speaking earlier, Danjuma Akuki, Chairman, award committee, said Precious FM met the assessment criteria to emerge winner of the best general manager of the year 2022.

He listed the assessment criteria to include internally generated revenue, hours of transmission, staff welfare, programme contents, station uplifting among others.

It will be recalled that FRCN North Central comprises of Harvest Fm, Makurdi, Harmony FM, Ilorin, Highland FM, Jos, Precious FM, Lafia and Prime FM, Lokoja.
