Gassol 1 Constituency Elders Consultative Forum has kicked against the installation of Meithusela E. Adamu as the new third class traditional ruler of Kwararrafa Chiefdom by the Taraba State Governor Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku.
In a Press briefing in Jalingo Spokesman of the Forum Hamman Tukur Kawu Hammanjam explained that the creation of Kwararrafa Chiefdom in 2019 by the present administration and appointment of late John Agbu Tsokwa as a third class Chief was vehemently opposed and rejected by the Forum because the creation of the new Chiefdom out of Gassol Local Government was improper. Hammanjam explained that this culminated into a legal tussle instituted by the Forum against the Taraba State Government at the State High Court Jalingo to compel the Government to revert her decision and maintain the status quo and stop the Taraba State Government from taking further action on the new Chiefdom.
The Forum noted that His Lordship Justice D. N. Buba of the State High Court Jalingo through a motion Experte filed by by it’s Counsel S.M Wakili granted an interim injunction restraining the defendants the Taraba State Governor, the State Attorney General and the Traditional Council of Kwararafa Chiefdom either by privies, agents, representatives, directly or indirectly from appointing, installing, recognizing and coronating any person temporary or permanently and or otherwise as the substantive Third Class Chief of Kwararafa Chiefdom in Gassol Local Government of Taraba State pending the determination of the motion on notice in suit No: TRSJ/85/2018 between M. Ibrahim Isa VS the Executive Governor of Taraba State and 2 others and and an order restraining the defendants or representatives, from redirecting any person directly or indirectly from parading himself or themselves as the representatives of Kwararafa Chiefdom in Gassol Local Government of Taraba State pending the determination of the case in the State High Court.
The Forum expressed dismay and shock that in spite of the interim injunctions which was served on all the defendants the Taraba State Government flagrantly disobeyed the court order went ahead and appointed Meithusela E. Adamu as the new 3th Class Chief of Kwararafa Chiefdom describing the appointment as a Gross contempt of court, abused of the rule of Law and mockery to Judicial system.
Hammanjam therefore urged the Taraba State Governor to respect the court order and cancel all actions on the creation of Kwararafa Chiefdom and appointment of a new Chief calling on the people of the area to remain calm, be law-abiding and not do anything that will disrupt their peaceful coexistence as the forum is doing everything to ensure the status quo is maintained in Gassol 1 Constituency in connection with the creation of Kwararafa Chiefdom and appointment of a paramount ruler.
