Nasarawa trains 117 civil servants on e-Governance for economy development

Nasarawa State Government says it has adopted the Federal Government
approved policies and strategies of e-Governance to enable it build
efficient and a vibrant digital economy across the 13 local government
of the state.
The state acting Head of Service, Barrister Abigail Waya made the statement during the closing ceremony of the two-day training off up-scaling training for head of ICT units which started on Wednesday
in Lafia, the state capital and ended recently.
According to her, the exercise was organized by office of head of
service in conjunction with the Bureau for Information and Communication Technology (BICT), noting that the training was aimed at equipping the participants with requisite knowledge for the smooth digital switchover of government activities.
She, however, maintained that the administration of Governor Abdullahi
Sule is committed to the digitalization of the system of work, training and re-training workers, towards building efficiency and a vibrant digital economy.
Her words, “We are here today as part of the Government’s resolve to strengthen the foundation ICT is built upon, by training and ensuring that those in charge of ICT in our MDAs understand what is expected of
them and the direction the government is working towards as we move to
E-Governance.”
The acting head of civil service narrated that the training is also
based on the need to create, understand and improve efficiency on ICT,
adding that this would go a long way in ensuring that staff of ICT
units, have the requisite knowledge and skill to drive the process,
understand their roles that is expected of them in their MDAs.
“You are to be the trainers, problem solvers and the tech gurus that
will guide the MDAs on website creation, email usage, enabling the
creation of strategic help centers, towards enabling automation of
tasks in the MDAs,” she added.
Barrister Waya further tasked civil servants in the state to embrace
the use of technology particularly that the state government is
positioning its workers to key into e-government initiatives and into
the idea of going paperless.
Earlier in his speech, the Director General BICT, Mr. Shehu Ibrahim
while speaking at the end of two-day workshop for staff of ICT units
at Umaru Tanko Al-Makura professional testing center, revealed that no
fewer than 117 civil servants in the ICT unit were trained on
E-Governance towards the growth and development of economy of the
state.
He said the training would guide heads of ICT on website creation,
email usage and how to manage other social media platforms in their
respective MDAs.
Ibrahim advised that the knowledge gained at the exercise should be
step down and use to achieve e-governance in the state.
He said that the bureau would help to ensure that MDAs have functional
website, email and other social media platforms to conduct activities
digitally.
He added that when the policy was fully implemented, the use of paper would be replaced with computers, phones and other digital platforms.
Similarly, Mr Emi Kasuwa, Director Training, Grading and Pension, Office of the Head of the Civil Service, while, welcoming participants from more than 40 MDAs in the state, added that the training was to equip them on the technical know-how for digital switch over of government activities.
Kasuwa, tasked the participants to avail themselves of the training
and justify the investment by the government and drive the process of
e-governance in their respective MDAs.
Responding, some beneficiaries, Azumeh Yamu from office of the Head of
Service and Adamu Williams-Yakubu from Teachers Service Commission,
expressed gratitude to the government for the training and promised to
utilize the knowledge gained.
