The presiding Judge of the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) sitting at the Court of Appeal in Abuja, Justice Haruna Simon Tsamani has called on lawyers in the matter to avoid technicalities for speedy dispensation of justice.
He made the remarks on Monday at the opening of the seating of the Court for the 2023 General elections.
The Judge who is of the Abuja Division of the Court said, “I am calling on the lawyers who will appear at the Court to avoid unnecessary delays like technicalities and other things that delay the dispensation of Justice.
“I call on all of us to work for the growth and development of our country, Nigeria and not to commit acts that would detail the peace of the country,” he said.
Justice Tsamani appealed for the general public to come to the court and witness the proceedings for the benefit of all.
He called on journalists to avoid sensationalizing the proceedings.
The other judges are, Justices Stephen Jonah Ada, Misturat Bello Yusuf, Okwu and Abba Mohammed.
Similarly, journalists and lawyers had a hectic day before they gained entrance to the Court due to heavy security.
But, before the proceedings, a court Registrar has beg for forgiveness for the delay in opening the courtroom which caused a commotion after it was opened.
Some politicians that witnessed the opening session are Mr Peter Obi presidential candidate of Labour Party, Barrister Simon Bako Lalong, Governor of Plateau State and Director General of defunct All Progressives Congress, Presidential Campaign Council, (APC-PCC), Secretary of INEC, Chairman of Labour Party, Chairman of APGA among others.
Proceedings will continue tomorrow.
Summarily, the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) and Labour Party, (LP) are challenging the declaration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has won the Presidential Election with 8.8 million votes to defeat Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 6.9 million, Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) who amassed 6.1 million and 15 others.
