Bauchi: retired police officers stage peaceful protest demanding exit from Pencom

Over two hundred retired police officers under the aegis of Retired Police Officers of Nigeria (REPON) in Bauchi State have staged a peaceful protest demanding for exit from the Contributory Pension Scheme (PENCOM). 

Accordingly, the members demand the federal government and Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba to as a matter to urgency to return them to the Nigeria Police Force Pension Contributory Scheme in the Country. 

The leader of group, retired superintendent officer, Iliya John while speaking to journalists shortly after registering their grievances to the Commissioner of Police, Aminu Alhassan at Command headquarters in Bauchi, regrettably said that their members are dying due to the way and manner they were frustrated by the Pencom.

“Our members including my humble self due collect one-third of our he/she entitlement after retirement, which he argued that it’s the course of their suffering. 

“Many of our members are dying because they’re collecting less than at the end of the month as pension. Whereas our other colleagues at various MDAs were collecting more than that amount”,

According to him, PENCOM is a killer disease and was introduced to ease the suffering of retired workers of Nigeria but it turns out to be a different thing where some organizations are filled out due to some selfish reasons. 

In his response, the Commissioner of Police, Aminu Alhassan thanked the retired police officers for their maturity and the orderly manner they conducted themselves to registerered their grievances. 

He urged them to remain calm and assured them of his support and the Command towards ensuring that their request is heard by the higher authorities. 

“I promised that your letter will get to the Inspector General of Police without any waste of time, I also assure of my support and Command support in all your demands”,. 

Alhassan, however, commended them for their positive thinking in choosing the Police Contributory Scheme and promise them better services.
