Senator Godswill Akpabio

The Senator representing Cross River State southern senatorial district,  Senator Gershom Bassey  has stated in clear terms that former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio is the best choice for the president of the Senate in the 10th Assembly.

This is in sharp contrast to the position declared few days ago by former Senate leader Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba who insisted that he will continue to root for the southeast because going by  zoning of offices formula in government, it should be their lots to produce a Senate President.

Ndoma-Egba, a chieftain of APC, had cautioned the southeast aspirants to be serious otherwise if the South-South or any other zone displaces them, he would go with them.

But a PDP Senator, Gershom Bassey gives his full backing to Akpabio, an APC stalwart, for the Senage President, maintaining that he has the qualities required to lead the Senate.

“My view is that Chief Godswill Akpabio is a sound candidate and it is only fair that a guy like him should be given an opportunity, especially since he is from the South South zone and he is also from our micro zone which is Akwa Ibom Cross River.

“First of all, i believe that the South South deserves it.  So I am in agreement with the APC for zoning it to the South South. In the South South, Godswill Akpabio is the most qualified because he is the only ranking Senator that APC has in the South South.

“When you look at his precedence, he has the experience and capacity to be a Senator and so I am fully in support of him.”
