4-times Olympian organises 3-day Table Tennis fiesta for adolescent from 5 states

Cross River State-born international Table Tennis Olympian, Offiong Edem currently playing in Spain is organising a 3-day tournament for 7-16 years old in Calabar.

The tournament holds from 1st to 3rd June, 2023 at the Table Tennis Club hall in UJ Esuene Stadium Calabar for five states.

42 kids have been selected from Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River and Rivers States to participate in the prized money tournament. 

The tournament is the third edition organised under the aegis of Offiong Edem Foundation.

This was disclosed at a press briefing ahead of the  tournament by the number one female Table Tennis star in Nigeria.

She said she will use the tournament to donate Table Tennis rackets, 70 pairs of Tennis shoes costing N100,000 each to the participants.

“I have already spent several millions of Naira to purchase the Tennis rackets, 70 pairs of Tennis shoes and other equipments to donate to well-performing kids.

“There will also be prize money for champions in different categories. 16 females and 26 males have been invited.

“There are several young and enthusiastic Table Tennis players  in the surrounding states who don’t have sponsors or training equipment. These budding stars need our mentorship and supports,” she said.

The six times African champion disclosed that after the tournament she will intensify her training for upcoming All Africa Table Tennis championship holding later in the year.
