The abandoned secretariat
By El-Yakub Dabai, Birnin Kebbi
Governor Nasir Idris has assured civil servants in Kebbi State that the ultramodern secretariat that was under construction in Birnin Kebbi since 2012 would be put to use in the next 18 months.
The Governor stated this at Government House, Birnin Kebbi while reawarding contract for the completion of the project to MTECH Universal Concept Limited and ZBCC Limited at the cost of N10billion.
“I am a product of Civil Service and I know the relevance of a befitting environment for workers. I will not rest on my oars until the secretariat is fully completed and made available for workers in the state. It is by so doing that they would maximally contribute to the development of the state,” Governor Idris said.
He warned the contractors by stressing that “You were chosen to complete this project because you are indigenous companies but that doesn’t mean we will compromise standards and allow slow pace of work. My Government will not hesitate to revoke the contract when your performance is below par.”

The Head of Civil Service, Sufuyanu Garba Bena in his remarks said the project which witnessed several upward variations with no date of completion at sight had to be revoked and reawarded to these companies and classified the contract as Lot A and Lot B.
In his response the Managing Director, MTECH Universal Concept Limited, Engineer Manir Jega said the companies would execute the project according to specification taking into consideration the time frame for the completion of the work in order to justify the confidence the government reposed in indigenous construction firms.
