Bauchi Governor, Mohammed warns against deforestation, directs tree planting across state

Worried by the spate of illegal felling of trees thereby causing deforestation in most parts of Bauchi State, the state Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed has ordered for massive planning of trees towards achieving a sustainable environmental development.
The Governor gave the directive at the Flagging off of the 2023 Tree Planting Campaign in Bauchi held on Thursday at Dungal village along Jos road.
He said that part of the exercise include a road side plantation which covers a distance of twelve point six kilometers from Miri to Mobile Roundabout Gidan Mai in the state capital.
Similar exercise would be replicated from Awala Roundabout to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport as well as towns and villages.
Bala Mohammed also said that the move would not only help in addressing environmental degradation, flooding, and climate change but also provide employment opportunities for teaming youth.
In their separate remarks, the State Commissioner of Housing and Environment, Danlami Ahmed Kawule and the State Coordinator Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes ACReSAL Project Dr. Ibrahim Kabir called on traditional institutions to support the government in that direction.
