Coordinator Yobe underprivileged initiative blames politicians for hijacking, diverting palliatives

Yobe State Coordinator of Initiative For Social and Economic Inclusivity of Underprivileged Person, Hon. Aliyu Buba Amshi, has accused the politicians for hijacked and distributed Palliatives among them in the state.

He said palliatives were hijacked and distributed among politicians in the thick of the removal of fuel Subsidy pandemic by President Bola Tinubu.

Amshi expressed worry over the poor accountability mechanism in the management of the subsidy fund and distribution of palliatives.

He said most of the palliatives were hijacked and diverted by politicians and shared among party members.

According to him, “I want to use this medium to tell Governor Mai Mala Buni, Some residents who are not members of the party lamented the hijack and their exclusion from the whole distribution process.”

However, not long after the distribution was made in some of the 17 local government areas across the state allegation of the proprietors diverting and selling off a part of the foodstuffs in the market began to emerge.

He added that, “We have received a lot of complaints of acts of diversion of palliatives, We want to call the attention of the governor, the committee of the palliatives distributions to look into issue immediately and take necessary measure.”

One of the resident in Amshi Community of Jakusko Local Government areas, Hon. Usman Kabiru Amshi, said many of these programmes fail to address the root courses of poverty and instead merely provide temporary, superficial relief.

He said “these ‘palliatives’ to me are akin to placing a bandage on a deep would whole ignoring the systemic issues that perpetuate economic.”
