Election Tribunal dismisses NNPP petition against Taraba Governor Kefas

Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Taraba State has declared Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas as duly elected by the majority of the people of the State.

Passing judgment Saturday September 30th, 2023 in Jalingo the three member Committee Presided by Justice G A Sunmonu outrightly and unanimously dismissed the Petition of the NNPP Governorship candidate Professor Mohammed Sani Yahaya in the February 25th, Governorship election against Dr. Agbu Kefas who was declared by by lNEC winner for lack of merit.

Reacting to the Judgement, Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas said it is a confirmation of the popular mandate given to him by the people of Taraba State.

“I am extremely delighted and humbled by the ruling of the Election Petition Tribunal affirming my victory in the 2023 Taraba State Governorship election, the judgement is an unequivocal affirmation of the popular mandate graciously given to me by the good people of Taraba State, I commend the Tribunal for their thoroughfulness and lucidity they have enriched our Jurisprudence and practice of electoral democracy”.

Governor Kefas equally commended his opponent Professor Mohammed Sani Yahaya who he referred to as a brother for approaching the Tribunal to ventilate his grievances which is a demonstration of his belief in the principles of democracy and imperative of civility in the conduct of political actors.

“I called on Professor Mohammed Sani Yahaya and all members of the opposition parties in Taraba State to join hands with us as we strive to move our dear State to a higher level we are all stakeholders in the ‘Project Taraba’ it is not about personal glory”.

The Governor said all hands mus tbe on deck to address the myriad of challenges confronting the State adding that if all political actors are united a clear signal will be sent to the people and the quest for Peace, security and development of the State will be the driving forces of their participation in politics.

“I also called on our Party faithfuls to moderate their celebration of this victory, they must individually and collectively extend an olive branch to our brothers and sisters in the other political parties, instead of celebrating we should bow down on prayers to God for his continued guidance and protection in the tasks ahead our victory is victory for the people” the Governor concluded.

However, the NNPP Governorship candidate Professor Mohammed Sani Yahaya rejected the verdict of the Taraba State Election Petition Tribunal in totality which dismissed his petition against Governor Agbu Kefas saying that he is heading straight to the Court of Appeal.
