Gov. Idris directed that henceforth, any boat passenger who refused to wear live jacket should not be allowed to embark on boat transportation for his safety and urged marine police and local authorities to ensure compliance with the instructions.

While expressing his condolence to the affected families, the Emir and the people of Yauri Emirate over the unfortunate incident, the governor made a donation of Eight Million Naira to the families of the deceased and Five Million Naira to Yauri Emirate Council and appealed for equitable distribution of the funds to those concerned.

Responding, the Emir, Dr Muhammad Zayyanu Abdullahi, appreciated the governor for the visit, saying that the boat was carrying 17 passengers not as reported by some members of the society, adding that the body of eight people were recovered and members of the rescue team were doing their best to recover the remaining corpses.

He said the Marine Authority had made several enlightenment campaigns on the dangers of water transformation without safety measures, especially during rain and windstorms stressing that the Authority would be fully involved in any water journey in the area.
