Regular, Special Marshalls collaborate to ensure safer, crash-free highways

It has been stressed that the primary responsibility of both the Regular and Special Marshals is to ensure that there is safety on the Federal Roads across the country.
Another important responsibility is to minimize to the barest minimum, road traffic crashes on the roads through constant patrols, education and enlightenment of the categories of road users.
The assertion was made by Zonal Commanding Officer (ZCO) of Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC),RS.12, Bauchi, ACM Joel Dagwa, in a keynote address, he delivered at the 2023 edition of the Sectorial workshop of the Special Marshall held on Thursday in Bauchi.
He charged both the Regular and Special Marshall to take the responsibility seriously knowing well that their services are for humanity.
Also speaking, the National Coordinator of the Special Marshall, Dr John Ugbebor, said that Special Marshals are selfless and dedicated individuals who are out to save lives on the highways across the country.
Represented by the Zonal Coordinator RS 12.1 Bauchi, Chief Magistrate Abdullahi Jumba, the National Coordinator called on road users to cooperate with the Special Marshalls while on duty to ensure safer roads.
In his remarks, the Sector Commander of the FRSC, CC Patrick Ikaba said that the Special Marshall have continue to play complementary roles in order to ensure safer roads in the Bauchi State stressing that their job though a volunteer, is very crucial to a safer road.
He then assured that the Sector Command will continue to partner with the Special Marshall through regular patrols to educate and enlighten road users on the need to obey traffic rules and regulations.
Also speaking, Bauchi Sector Coordinator of the Special Marshall, Dr Kunle Gbadamosi represented by his Deputy, Godwin Onuoha, emphasized the importance of the Special Marshall to safer roads in Bauchi state in particular and the country as a whole.
He stressed that though it is a volunteer work, members are deriving joy and happiness in doing it as they come out every week to participate in patrols and traffic control.
Speaking during the workshop, a Honorary Special Marshall, Umar Dahiru urged the Federal Government to give due consideration to constructions of good roads network and ensure maintenance of same with a view to minimizing road traffic crashes in the country.
Umar Dahiru a one-time Commissioner in Bauchi state, said that Nigeria has the capacity and resources to provide good roads of international standard, however frowned at the dilapidated condition of interstate highways across the nation.
He also argued that for the country to safeguard lives of its citizens plying the roads on daily basis, the situation need to be looked into with all sense of seriousness, responsibility and commitment.
The 2023 Special Marshal Sectoral Workshop has as theme: “Volunteerism In Road Safety Management: Limits and Possibilities” was organized by the Special Marshall, RS 12.1 of Federal Road Safety Corps, Bauchi Sector Command.
