Rotary Club reiterates commitment to polio eradication

Rotary Club of Bauchi Central has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that the state, just as Nigeria, remains polio free having been declared such by the World Health Organisation (WHO). 

The assertion was made by the President of Rotary Club of Bauchi Central, Rotarian Pam Dauda while speaking at the Government House shortly after a 3-kilometer walk from the Palace of the Emir of Bauchi to commemorate 2023 World Polio Day held on Tuesday. 

Pam Dauda said that poliomyelitis is a preventable disease that needs only regular vaccination by Under 5 years children to eradicate lamenting however that it was the rejection of the vaccination to affected the victims. 

He therefore encouraged parents to ensure that all their U-5 children were vaccination against the disease stressing that, it is only by so doing that they can be protected against. 

To the polio victims, he encouraged them that it is not the end of life as they can turn around the situation positively by becoming Ambassadors for the eradication of polio in the state. 

Also speaking, the Rotary Club of Bauchi Central Polio Representative, Rotarian Chukwunonso Nwobi said that Rotary International has remained the champions of polio eradication globally including Nigeria and Bauchi State. 

He said that Rotary Club of Bauchi Central will ensure that every required attention was given to the maintenance of the polio free status of the country and by extension, Bauchi State. 

Chukwnonso Nwobi expressed happiness with the turnout of polio victims who joined in the 3-kilometers walk from the Emir’s Palace to the Government House amidst dancing and singing saying that it is a demonstration of their accepting their conditions and moving forward. 

Rotaract Club of ATBU also expressed resolve to join in the process of eradication of polio in Bauchi state promising to engage in advocacy and campaign to create awareness on the need for parents to allow their children U-5 years to be vaccinated against poliomyelitis. 

The participants in the walk passed through Nassarawa Street, CBN roundabout, Yakubun Bauchi Road and terminated at the Government House.
