Protest: Plateau Governor, Mutfwang urges PDP faithful to calm down as police warns

As supporters and well wishers of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) in Plateau State continue to agonise over the sacking of six of its federal lawmakers by the appellate court, the Governor, Caleb Mutfwang has appealed for calm.
A massive protest was staged in parts of the state capital, but the governor in a statement by Gyang Bere, his Director of Press Affairs said the people must not allow violence in the state which has gone through difficult times in the area of security.
“I (Mutfwang) appeal for calm. I strongly urge the citizens of Plateau State not to take any steps that will adversely affect the relative peace we are enjoying today. Let’s not allow the feeling of disenchantment to degenerate into breakdown of law and order,” governor noted.
Meanwhile, the Plateau State Police Command has warned that any unlawful protest with tendencies to breach the fragile peace in amd around the state would be resisted.
“In order to maintain peace, law and order in the state, the CP has warned individuals, or group of persons protesting under any guise, whose reaction could truncate the peace currently being enjoyed in the state to desist from such actions or else, the police command will not hesitate to take decisive action against the perpetrators in accordance with the extant laws”, Alfred Alabo, the spokesman said i a statement.
It also stressed further that “The CP therefore warned parents, traditional/religious leaders, to warn their wards and subjects, to steer clear from such unlawful protests to avoid being apprehended by the law enforcement agencies.”
