Bauchi First Lady renovates, equip Special Education Centre, donates food, other items for welfare of students

The Special Education Centre, the school for children with special needs, Bauchi has been comprehensively renovated and upgraded in order to ensure an inclusive educational policies and initiatives.
The project was jointly executed by the Bauchi State First Lady, Dr Aisha Bala Mohammed through her Almuhibba Foundation in collaboration with the state Ministry of Education.
The project included the provision of new beds, 250 mattress, 250 sets of bedsheets, 250 pillows, 70 stylus pen for the blind students, 2 jerricans of Morning Fresh perfumery, 1 Jerrican of Izal, 20 mopping sticks/buckets, 520 buckets, 60 kettles as well as students’ and teacher’s furniture including dining tables and dishes.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the First Lady said that the Centre has been completely renovated, such as fencing, hostels, classrooms, kitchen, dining halls, admin block and staff rooms including wash facilities among others.

Aisha informed the gathering that the project is part of her construction towards improving the education sector and also to improve the welfare of people with special needs.
According to her, “To further safeguard their lives and properties, we have upgraded the school clinic with equipment, drugs and other medical consumables. We have also increased the number of matrons and security personnel to the schools.”
Aisha also provided each of the 515 students with two sets of classroom and compound uniforms (each), school bags, exercise books, sandals as well as procured 70 brailles and other assorted teaching aids for effective teaching and learning.
She announced other donation to the Center for effective services including food items such as 5 bags of rice, 5 bags of millets, 5 bags of maize, 5 bags of Sugar, 5 cartons of Spaghetti, 5 Jerricans of groundnut oil, 5 Jerricans of Palm oil, 600 cartons of soft drinks and 600 cartons of bottle water respectively.
The First Lady also gave 34 wives of Teachers living in the school quarters and Casual staff N10,000.00 each.
In her welcome address, the State Commissioner of Education, Dr Jamila Muhammad Dahiru said that the Center will continue to be a place of transformation, inspiration and boundless opportunities for generations to come.
According to her, the Special Education Center, Yelwa was established in 1984 with the sole aim of providing qualitative education, skills and training for children with special needs.
The Head of the Center expressed happiness over the development saying that this is the first time the Center witnessed a complete turnaround stressing that it will enhance a conducive learning environment.
Some of the students thanked the First Lady for the gesture which they said will encourage them to face their studies with confidence.
