Appeal Court judgement: Nasarawa APC congratulates Governor Sule, PDP heads to Supreme Court
By Linus Ogbu, Lafia
The All Progressives Congress (APC), Nasarawa State Chapter has congratulated its candidate on March 18 governorship election, Gov Abdullahi Sule as Appeal Court sitting in Abuja set aside
tribunal judgement and affirmed his reelection.
This is even as the Peoples Democratic party (PDP) indicated interest in challenging the Appeal Court Judgement at the supreme Court.
APC, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Chief Otaru Douglas described the judgement as a reflection of APC’s popular acceptability, big win for democracy and victory for the good people of Nasarawa State.
The appellate court, in a unanimous decision by a three-member panel of Justices, voided the verdict of the Nasarawa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which sacked gov Sule of the APC and declared Dr David Ombugadu of the People’s Democrat Party (PDP) winner.
APC said Sule’s victory at appealate court validated the overwhelming support received by the party and its candidate from the majority of the people of the state, which translated to the party victory during the March 18 governorship election.
APC said further that the victory rekindled the hope of the common man, which was almost dashed by the uncertainties pervaded the political atmosphere and the needless distractions it has caused the APC and Sule’s led Administration.
“This resounding victory at the Appeal Court is a testament to the trust and confidence the citizens of the state have in the APC led Administration and the unwavering commitment of the Governor to the progress and development of our dear state.
“We are equally not unaware of the mutual distrust and security infractions these whole debacle has brought to our dear state since after the election and the aftermath of the tribunal ruling.
“By this judgement, the good people of the state can now heave a sigh of relief from anti democratic tendencies and extreme conservatism of the opposition PDP,” the statement said.
The party urged its supporters to celebrate with all sense of responsibility, while calling on the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and its candidate Dr David Emmanuel Ombugadu to put aside all differences and support the administration of Gov Sule to move the state forward.
“It is imperative at this trying moments of our national life that we unite as a state, transcend beyond political and ethnic affiliations and harness our collective strength and resources for the betterment of our dear state,” the statement read.
However, PDP, in a swift reaction through statement by its Chairman, Hon Francis Orogu, said the party would appeal the judgement at Supreme Court to seek a fair and thorough review of the judgement of the Court of Appeal.
“PDP, after careful consideration and consultation with our legal team, expresses profound disagreement with the judgment of the Court of Appeal that invalidated the decision of the Election Petition Tribunal, which sacked Governor AA Sule and declared our candidate, Dr David Ombugadu, as the duly elected governor.
“While we respect the judiciary and the rule of law, we firmly believe that the decision by the Court of Appeal does not align with the facts presented during the tribunal proceedings.
“We urge our teeming supporters, party faithful, and the general public to remain calm, our legal team has identified significant grounds for appeal, we have confidence in the legal system and optimistic that justice will prevail,” Orogu said.
